Kochi:Eight students of an engineering college were killed when a car collided with a stationary cargo lorry at Kaipamangalam on NH 66 in Thrissur late last night.
The lorry was said to be parked on the highway at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam near here.
All the victims died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Vishwanath of Salem, Surya and Yuvasanjeet of Dindigul, while Santosh and Prasanna belonged to Madurai.
Three of the deceased have not been identified.
The victims were students of Dindigul PSNA engineering college students.
The vehicle was mangled due to the impact of the crash.
The youths were pulled out of the car in a rescue operation carried out by locals, fire and rescue personnel and police.
The bodies were taken to Thrissur Medical College here, police said.
