Kochi: A 40-year-old businessman was today given Life Imprisonment and 28 years jail term by a special court for killing his 13-year-old daughter in 2021 near Kochi in Kerala, media reports said.
The Ernakulam Special POCSO Court found Sanu Mohan guilty of murdering his daughter Vaiga and also slapped a penalty of Rs 1.7 lakh.
Charges of murder, kidnapping, detaining, drugging, Juvenile Justice Act among others were proved against him.
Police filed a 236-page chargesheet in the case on July 9, 2021.
The trial lasted a year during which 78 witnesses were examined.
Police found Vaiga’s body in Muttar River in Kochi on March 22, 2021, when they were searching for the father and daughter who were reported missing.
A postmortem conducted on her said that she died due to drowning. Police continued their search for Sanu who was nabbed in Karnataka about a month after the crime.
After leaving his wife with a relative in Alappuzha, Sanu brought Vaiga to their house in Kochi where she was administered alcohol laced in soft drink.
She was strangled and dumped in Muttar river on the night of March 21, 2021. He took her ornaments and escaped. He was arrested one month after the incident.
