Kochi: M Swaraj, 46, of CPM is the LDF candidate in the Nilambur Assembly byelection on June 19.
The name of Swaraj, member of the CPM State secretariat was announced by CPM State secretary M V Govindan at a press conference on Friday.
Govindan downplayed the prominence of
P V Anvar of Trinamul Congress who had won during the last assembly election backed by the LDF.
He also criticised the UDF on failing to woo Anvar after which it zeroed in on Aryadan Shaukath.
Govindan said differences within UDF would go against the UDF’s candidate Aryadan Shoukath.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate Swaraj’s election convention at Nilambur on June 1.
Swaraj was the Chairman of the Calicut University Students’ Union in 1999 and became Secretary of state unit of the SFI in 2005.
He became president of the state unit of DYFI in 2011. Swaraj was first elected to state Assembly from Thripunithura in 2016 but lost in 2021.
