Malabar to run trains to Guruvayur

Kochi: The Railways has decided to lay a Railway line to the temple town of Guruvayur via Kuttippuram, Manorama News reported.

An order to this regard was issued by Sujeet Kumar, Joint Director of the Railway Board, stating that further action on the project will be taken by the Southern Railway authorities.
The coastal rail corridor connecting Guruvayoor in Thirunnavaya in Malappuram district in Thrissur came up numerous times while discussing rail connectivity in the state after the BJP came to power in the centre.
The possibility of extending the Thirunnavaya-Guruvayur line upto Ernakulam was also in the discussion.
According to Union Minister of State for Tourism, Suresh Gopi, the Railway Board revived the project following a series of discussions with people’s representatives from Kerala, Union
Minister Suresh Gopi who was elected for Thrissur said.
A survey for the Thirunnavaya to Guruvayur line in Thirunnavaya panchayat hit a road block following strong local protests claiming that the rail line was harmful to ecologically fragile Thrissur–Ponnani Kole wetlands.
