Kochi: The 39-year-old Lionel Messi of Argentina made history by becoming the highest goal-scorer in the FIFA World Cup history. Lionel Messi became the World Cup’s all-time leading goal-scorer by scoring 17th and 18th goal breaking Miroslav Klose’s record of 16 goals helping his team win over Austria 2-0 in Texas World Cup 2026. Messi is appearing at his sixth World Cup and has scored 13 tournament goals since reversing that decision to retire from international football. Twelve of his 18 goals have come since he turned 35. Fourteen of the 18 were kicked with his left foot, and four have come from outside the box.
