Kochi: About 54 years after conducting mock drills, India is once again training people under a drill codenamed ‘Operation Abhyas’
to deal with a war like situation on May 7 as per the direction of the Union Government in the wake of tension between India and Pakistan.
With India conducting airstrikes in terror training camps after the Pahalgam terror strike which claimed 26 lives, the union government is training people in 244 districts to react during a war like situation.
It was in 1971 when the country had witnessed a similar situation when Pakistan had attacked India during the liberation of Bangladesh.
Mock drills have begun across several areas in the country under the guidance of agencies like police, NCC, NDRF, Fire and Rescue personnel and the like.
People should stop any outdoor activity and stop use of phones on hearing of distress sirens as per the direction of National Disaster Management Authority.
The drill is to test emergency response in hospitals, schools, and government offices.
The mock drill aims to strengthen India’s readiness to respond during a crisis.
