Kochi: A 11-day-old infant baby was recovered from a childless woman who had bought it for Rs 3 lakh from the real mother of the child in Thiruvananthapuram, media reports said. The matter came to the notice of the Childline which informed the police who took the woman and infant to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) office where the newborn was taken over by the CWC.
The purported sale of the child was said to have taken place at Thycaud government hospital on Wednesday. When questioned, the woman first claimed that she was the mother of the child. Later, she said the child belonged to her friend and finally she said that she had purchased the child.
