Kochi: The arrest of a doctor, a cop and a terror suspect’s mother by NIA for helping banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba agent Thadiyantavide Nazeer has exposed the extent of anti national activities taking place in jails, media reports said.
The NIA arrested psychiatrist Dr Nagaraj, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chan Pasha and Anees Fathima, mother of a terror suspect Junaid Ahmed, engaged in terror activities outside India, the reports said.
Searches conducted by NIA at five locations in Bengaluru and Kolar district helped in seizing walkie-talkies, digital devices, cash, gold and incriminating documents from the houses of the accused and other habitual offenders who were conspiring to unleash terror activities in Bengaluru to execute the agenda of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The NIA accused Dr Nagaraj of smuggling mobile phones for Thadiyantavide Nazeer and others.
Anees Fathima passed instructions from Nazeer to her son for raising funds and handing over the same to Nazeer in prison. Chan Pasha passed information related to Naseer’s escort from prison to various courts in exchange for money in 2022, the agency said.
The NIA has already filed a chargesheet against nine accused, including Junaid Ahmed, under various Sections.
The case was referred by Karnataka police to NIA in 2023 after seizing seized seven country-made pistols, 45 live bullets, walkie-talkies and some documents a house in Kodigehalli in July 2023.
