Kochi: In a blow to the LDF government, the Supreme Court has expressed surprise over Kerala paying life time pension to the personal staff of state ministers completing two years of service.
Kerala is the only state that practices the system of appointing personal staff for two years and paying them pension, the Apex Court said while hearing a plea made by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) seeking relief from Oil companies supplying fuel to KSRTC.
The court said if the state could afford to pay pension to ministers’ personal staff after two years, it could very well pay fuel bills.
KSRTC had prayed to the Supreme Court to
direct the Union of India to set up a regulatory body to regulate fuel prices bought in bulk.
However, the Supreme Court suggested KSRTC to approach the High Court in this regard.
