No reports on Iran President

Kochi: Over 15 hours after the crash of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, there are no reports about the president, media reports said.

The helicopter carrying the president and eight others met with an accident while returning from Azerbaijan on Sunday, the reports said.

The mishap occurred in northwest Iran.

The others in the helicopter included Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Governor of Eastern Azerbaijan province Malek Rahmati, Imam Mohammad Ali Alehashem, among others.

Many nations and organizations are supporting Iran in the search and rescue operation. Iraq, Pakistan and India, Armenia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the European Union have offered support in the rescue operations.

The helicopter made a “hard landing” after it got into difficulties in heavy fog in the north of the country while returning from a visit to Azerbaijan, the reports said. Raisi was heading to the city of Tabriz, in Iran, the reports said. Rescuers were not able to reach the site due to inclement weather.

Raisi, 63, became president for a second time in 2021. His government took harsh steps against anti-government protests.
