Now, Sri Lanka woos Kitex

Kochi: Garment major Kitex is going places after it showed signs of quitting Kerala citing unfriendly business atmosphere. Several states are wooing the promoters with open arms to invest in their states which they claim are very attractive and lucrative. Every state is vying to grab the investment in an attractive manner. Now Sri Lanka has jumped into the scene, inviting Kitex to start its venture in the island nation.

Sri Lankan deputy high commissioner Dr Doraiswamy Veketeswaran reached Kochi to hold discussions with Kitex chief Sabu Jacob today. Sri Lanka has offered very attractive facilities for Kitex which has not made any commitment. Bangladesh has already made an attractive offer to Sabu. Kitex had announced plans to invest Rs 1000 crore in Telengana. Eight Indian states are eagerly waiting to hear positive response from Kitex management. Kerala government invited the wrath of the garment exporter by conducting a battery of raids after political leaders accused several charges against Kitex unit in Kochi.

Kitex became a thorn in the flesh of many political parties here after a political outfit 20-20 floated by Kitex became an outright hit as Kitex was already popular for its welfare schemes including low priced hyper markets. Sabu blamed politicians for troubling him by misusing government machinery to harass him.
