Officials help smuggling”

Kochi: Kerala police have busted a gold smuggling racket involving some CISF and customs officials in Karipur airport in Kozhikode, media reports said.
Smuggling was carried out 60 times with the help of the officials.
CISF Assistant Commandant Navin played a key role in the crime, the reports said.
The police team led by Malappuram SP Sujith Das nabbed three carriers on October 5.
They arrested Faizal of Koduvally in Kozhikode when he came to collect gold. He revealed the involvement of baggage handler Sharaf Ali whose questioning helped the police expose the role of CISF official Naveen and some customs officials.
Sharaf Ali told the police about Naveen giving duty schedules to the gang who carried out the smuggling based on the duty schedules of the officials. Police have also seized WhatsApp chat history to establish the involvement of the officials. Police assume that the gang had smuggled gold worth Rs 25-30 crore through the airport. Rafeeq of Koduvally is said to be the kingpin in the smuggling. CUG connection sims were used by the officials and smugglers.
