Kochi: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, sister Priyanka Gandhi and a number of party MPs were arrested for taking out a march against issues like price rise, unemployment, GST hike, violating prohibitory orders in New Delhi on Friday.
They were taken to Kingsway camp police station. Congress President Sonia Gandhi led the march participated by scores of MP and party leaders.
The leaders engaged in about one hour long arguments with the police and some leaders managed to cross the barricades and march further when they were arrested. The administration had imposed section 144 in the area barring Jantar Mantar.
Earlier, leaders assembled at party Headquarters where women leaders cooked food on the roadside to protest against the government.
The protest is also seen as a backlash to the ED’s decision to seal the National Herald publication following money laundering allegations against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi connected with the institution.
A few days back they were questioned for long hours by the ED.
