CPM leader’s wife’s interview turns murkier

Kochi: The appointment of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s private secretary K K Ragesh’s wife as associate professor in Kannur University has turned controversial for getting the job despite poor marks.

This points towards blatant violation of the laid down norms in the appointment of Priya Varghese, the Save University Campaign Committee (SUCC) said, quoting the RTI details secured by it.

According to media reports, the research points scored by Priya for publication of her research materials was the lowest among the six aspirants who appeared for the interview.

The highest points of 651 scored by Joseph Scaria failed in the interview while Priya with 156 points ranked top in interviews conducted by a panel headed by the Vice Chancellor.

Priya had minimum teaching experience despite scoring the highest marks of 32 in the interview while Joseph Scaria got only 30. All others who had much higher points in different areas were overtaken by Priya in the interview.

After this appointment, the Vice Chancellor got an extension following his retirement which makes the appointment suspicious, media reports quoting the SUCC claimed.

The SUCC has submitted the details to the Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan who has taken a strong view on the matter making things difficult for the LDF government.
