Kochi: The crisis-gripped Congress in Rajasthan is struggling to make Rajesh Pilot Chief Minister in place of Ashok Gehlot who had announced his decision to fight the party president election.
With Pilot all set to take over charge, suddenly situation changes as the Gehlot faction publicly opposed Pilot’s candidature even as Gehlot feigned ignorance over the developments.
This has angered the party High Command which wanted a smooth transition of power from Gehlot to Sachin who was assured of the post by Priyanka Gandhi while setting the crisis in Rajasthan a few months back.
It has come to the open that the Gehlot faction was creating trouble to help Speaker C P Joshi to become Chief Minister.
This has earned Gehlot the wrath of the party and his chance of getting the support of the party in the presidential election appears doubtful.
The new names making rounds for the top post of the party are Mukul Wasnik, Digvijay Singh, Mallikarjuna Kharge and Kamalnath.
Shashi Tharoor is likely to fight the election but the Congress High Command has not given its nod.
Eight MLAs joining BJP in Goa and its former Punjab Chief Minister joining the Saffron party have taken place after former party president Rahul Gandhi started his Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari.
Any mishandling of the present situation could be disastrous to the party.
