Publish Hema panel report: NWC

Kochi: National Women’s Commission (NWC) is on a collision course with the LDF government on the Justice Hema Commission report which has been gathering dust in Thiruvananthapuram for the last two and a half years.
Expressing concern over the Left government’s difficulty in making the report public, NWC chairperson Rekha Sharma has shot a letter to Kerala Chief Secretary V P Joy seeking a report on the matter in 15 days.
The government should publish the report without disclosing the names of the survivors.
Copies of the report should be supplied to the complainants.
The NCW is planning to hold meetings with the WCC in this regard and hold a separate inquiry into it.
The commission had sent a letter to the chief secretary on March 22 seeking to make the report public by maintaining the secrecy of the victims.
The matter came into limelight after Minister P Rajeev told at a media programme that the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC)
was against publishing the commission report.
The Kerala government set up the commission in 2018 after the abduction and abuse of an actor on February 17, 2017. The commission submitted its report in 2019. Since then the government is sitting on it.
