Trikkakkara bye poll on May 31

Kochi: Thrikkakara assembly bye poll necessitated following the death of Congress leader P T Thomas will be held on May 31.
Counting of votes will be held on June 3.
The Election Commission will issue notification on May 4.
Nominations can be filed till May 11. Last day of withdrawal is May 16.
The Election Commission decided this on April 29. The state government had requested that the elections be held before the arrival of Monsoon.
The election is crucial for the LDF and UDF
as Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and leading readymade exporter Sabu Jacob’s Twenty20 are reported to planning to field a common candidate in the polls.
AAP’s tremendous victory in the recent Punjab elections have made big impact across the country.
Twenty20 on the other hand has grown steeply in just six years during which it wiped out mainline political fronts in Kizhakkambalam in 2015.
In the recent local bodies Twenty20 added three more panchayats to its kittties.
These developments cannot be ignored by the mainline political parties.
UDF has won all elections after the formation of the constitution in 2011.
P T Thomas retained the constituency in 2021 when there was a wave in favour of LDF.
Trikkakkara is one of the 24 divisions that constitutes the constituency.
Thomas’ wife Uma Thomas is likely to be the UDF while there are many names making rounds for LDF.
BJP has said that it will field a winnable candidate.
