Revolt in AIADMK?

Kochi: A section of AIADMK MLAs led by C V Shanmugam have raised banners of revolt against party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami holding him accountable for the party’s defeats.
They have demanded the resignation of Edappadi as party won only 47 of 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
The leaders expressed their non confidence in Edappadi who dismissed reports of dissidence in the party.
The AIADMK was ousted from power by the DMK-led alliance in 2021 when it had secured only 75 seats.
AIADMK got only one Lok Sabha seat out of 39 seats in the 2019 while it was still worse in the 2024 parliamentary election when it drew a blank.
The actor turned politician Joseph Vijay’s TVK which won 108 seats fell short of a majority by 10 seats.
The CPI, CPM, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) extended support to TVK and managed to get the needed numbers.
