SC grants interim relief to Nupur Sharma

Kochi: In a temporary relief, the Supreme Court ruled that no coercive action should be taken against the suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma who is booked at various places for her hate speech on May 26.

Hearing her prayer for a second time, the Supreme Court sent notices accordingly to the Centre and state governments and directed them to respond before August 10 when the case would be heard again.

The Supreme Court had on July 1 rejected her plea to compile all the FIRs filed against her at different places in the country into one after FIRs were registered against her following her controversial remarks.

The Apex Court had on July 1 criticised her harshly for her irresponsible remarks. She was asked to move the High Court then.
Today Nupur prayed before the cour that she had been getting threats of different natures after the Supreme Court’s July 1 verdict.

She said she was not in a condition to move the High Court due to the threats.
Granting the temporary relief, the court said that it did not want her to approach every court for relief.
