Kochi: Former chairman of the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) E Abubacker has been denied bail by the Supreme Court.
A division bench of the court rejected the
bail plea of Abubacker who had prayed for bail claiming that he was sick due to some ailments.
The court gave the ruling after perusing a medical report submitted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The bench allowed him to approach the trial court afresh if there was any deterioration in his medical condition.
Abubacker’s, lawyer Gopal Sankaranarayanan submitted that the medical report substantiates the claims about his poor health.
Abubacker was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on September 22, 2022, during a massive nationwide crackdown on PFI. He was booked under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act or UAPA.
