The rivalry between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar after Congress’s victory in the May 2023 Karnataka assembly elections. An informal power-sharing arrangement had been worked out to share power between the two for two and half years.
However, continuation of Siddaramaiah in office beyond the first two-and-a-half years of the government’s tenure fuelled speculation about continuity of the government.
Last week, the party leadership finally moved to resolve the impasse by persuading Siddaramaiah to hand over the charge to Shivakumar.
