Kochi: Actor Shwetha Menon on Thursday moved the Kerala High Court seeking a stay of a lower Court order directing the police to book her on charges levelled by a social activist, media reports said.
The social activist had approached the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court seeking criminal action against her for doing objectionable roles in films released many years back, Dismissing the charges, she claimed the move against her was with “manifest malafides”.
Claiming that she is a reputed and respected artist, she said the allegations are baseless. She argued that all her films and advertisements were duly censored, certified, and have been publicly available for years.
She also rubbished allegations of involvement in running porn sites and drug rackets. She said the charges levelled were irresponsible and a product of the complainant’s wild imagination.
Shwetha was booked under non bailable charges on the basis of the Ernakulam order directing police to register FIR against the actor based on a complaint filed by the complainant.
Shwetha is contesting for the post of president in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) which is in the midst of controversy since its formation.
Actor Jagadeesh had withdrawn from the race leaving actor Devan against Shwetha.
