Kochi: A organization named Nihang Sikh has owned up the responsibility of brutally killing a man on the Haryana-Delhi Singhu border where farmers were protesting against centre’s farm laws.
Saravjeet Singh surrendered before the police in Haryana on Friday evening claiming that he had killed Lakhbir Singh, 30, and severed his one hand, media reports said.
There are unconfirmed reports of the deceased man allegedly engaging in an act that provoked the accused and others, the reports said. The body was found in the wee hours of Friday.
Nihang Sikhs accused the victim of disrespecting holy scripture at Singhu protest site, with a group of them claiming responsibility in several videos that went viral on social media. Earlier a person belonging to the same radical sect had chopped off the palm of an assistant police inspector for asking to show the travel pass during lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic at Patiala in Punjab.
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) General Secretary Hannan Mollah dismissed reports that the deceased had any association with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmer unions.He said attempts were being made for the past several months to bring a bad name for the morcha, the reports said.
The deceased had suffered several injuries on his body that was tied to an overturned barricade at the protest site at Kundli. The accused was likely to be produced before court on Saturday.
