Monsoon Fury in Kerala; Red alert in several districts in central Kerala

Kochi: Four persons have been reportedly died in Idukki and Kottayam due to the heavy rains on Saturday, reports said. Three persons were reported to have died in Plappally in Koottickal village due to landslides in Kottayam, reports said. Ten persons have been reported missing in the Koottickal village area.

Several areas have been marooned in this area which is part of the high range area of the Western Ghats. Many areas in Pala were inundated due to suspected landslide.

A girl died, when the car in which she was travelling, washed away in Kanjaar near Thodupuzha. Search operation has intensified to trace the remaining people in the car. Landslides were reported in different parts of Idukki district blocking road transport mainly in the Kottayam -Kumily road.

Eastern areas of Pathanamthitta district have been badly affected. People living in vulnerable areas are being shifted to safer areas.

India Meteorological Department has predicted extremely heavy rains in Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad today. Red alert has been declared in these districts.
