Kochi: Tension prevailed after a march taken out by the Congress’ KSU to DGP’s office culminated in a clash between the protesters and the police in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, media reports said.Police used water cannons when the KSU activists tried to breach the barricades erected to stop them from marching ahead, the reports said.
The police used lathicharge to disperse the protesters who allegedly destroyed posters of Nava Kerala Sadassu march being taken out by the Chief Minister and his ministers, police said.There were reports of students throwing chili powder on police who bashed them from all sides.
Police arrested many protestors. Mathew Kuzhalnadan, MLA, KSU state president Aloysius Xavier were among those injured. Police used lathi charge against women, the reports said. A TV cameraman waz lathicharged.The injured were taken to hospital. KSU alleged that the lathicharge was carried out without any provocation.
The march, which started from the KPCC office, was inaugurated by Mathew Kuzhalnadan, MLA, who accused that quotation team was traveling with the Chief Minister.Mathew challenged Pinarayi Vijayan to travel like the Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.The march was organised against the attack carried out on Congress workers for flashing flags and raising slogans against Pinarayi Vijayan during his Nava Kerala Sadassu campaign across the state.
