Kochi: Third case of Monkeypox has been confirmed in the state with a 35-year-old person getting infected at Malappuram.
The patient had reached Kerala from UAE on July 6.
The person got a fever on July 13. He started showing symptoms on July 15.
Soon the patient was isolated and samples sent for testing. The patient is under treatment at Manjeri Medical College in Malappuram district in North Kerala.
Cases of Monkey pox have not been reported from anywhere else in the country.
According to the World Health Organisation monkey pox virus similar to small pox with less severity. It is transmitted from animals to humans and is transmitted through contact, bodily fluids, lesions on the skin or on internal mucosal surfaces like mouth, throat, respiratory droplets and contaminated objects. The symptoms lasts from two to four weeks.
