Kochi: Tamil Nadu has cited rising domestic demand for rough stones and construction materials imposing a three-month ban on their transportation to Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
Expressing concerns over the move, Kerala has sought exemptions to avoid delay in executing National Highway projects.
The restriction applies to Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
The decision was taken following a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay with senior officials on Tuesday. The order also noted that rough stone is not a scarce mineral in Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, suggesting that the temporary restriction would not significantly affect those states.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan whose Congress is a partner of ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu, sought suitable relaxations.
