Kochi: With elections a few weeks away, the high-speed rail corridor in Kerala has got the nod of the BJP led government, media reports said.
E Sreedharan, who revolutionized metro transport in Kerala, will lead the project in the state.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been assigned to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR), which is expected to be completed within nine months.
Sreedharan held parleys with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi on January 16 to deliberate on the issue.
The trains can operate at 135 kms/h to a maximum speed of 200 km/h. It will be a blend of elevated and underground tracks as land acquisition is a major problem.
On funding, Sreedharan said the project will follow the Konkan Railway model, with the Centre and the state contributing 51% and 49% respectively.
