Kochi: Twenty20, a political party floated by entrepreneur Sabu M Jacob, today joined the BJP-led NDA to counter the traditional rivals Left and Congress led fronts ahead of Assembly polls in Kerala.
World’s leading garment export company Kitex Garments promoter Sabu M Jacob announced this at a press conference attended by BJP Kerala Chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar at Thiruvananthapuram.
Sabu said he had floated Twenty20 to find an alternative to the rule by the two traditional fronts which had destroyed the state due to their misrule for decades.
The move comes a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi kickstarts the BJP’s election campaign in Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Friday.
“We discussed and decided to join hands with the NDA and Modi ji to bring changes in Kerala,” Jacob said.
Jacob said his Twenty20 had implemented many exemplary welfare schemes and food security initiatives in panchayats governed by his party in Ernakulam.
Justifying his decision to associate with the BJP front, Sabu said the Left front and Congress led fronts had joined hands to defeat his party in the Local bodies polls.
Sabu said it was not possible to fight parties forming fronts single handed.
“For the first time, both the LDF and UDF did not contest under their party symbols to face us,” he claimed.
Chandrasekhar said the formal inclusion of Twenty20 into the NDA would be announced at an event to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. He said the NDA was aiming to bring a change in the political culture of the state.
Modi will be in Thiruvananthapuram for different programmes including inaugurating new trains.
