Kochi: The US has honoured two Indian-American scientists Ashok Gadgil and Subra Suresh with the country’s highest scientific awards in the field of science and technology, media reports said.
President Joe Biden presented the White House national medal for technology and innovation to Gadgil for providing life-sustaining resources to communities around the world, the reports said.
Suresh was awarded the national medal of science for pioneering research across engineering, physical sciences and life sciences among others.
Gadgil is a distinguished professor emeritus of civil and environmental engineering at UC Berkeley.
Gadgil developed low-cost solutions including safe drinking water technologies, energy-efficient stoves, and affordable lighting.
Gadgil studied in IIT, Kanpur, and got PhD from UC Berkeley.
Born in India in 1956, Suresh earned PhD in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the reports said.
