Vijay is TN CM

Kochi: Bringing an end to five days of suspense and drama, the newly floated Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor Chandrasekar Joseph Vijay came to power in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath to Vijay and eight TVK MLAs as cabinet ministers at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attended the event.
In his maiden address to the people of the state, Vijay promised to do everything good for them.
“This is a new beginning. A new era of real, secular, social justice starts now,” he said.
Vijay signed a file for free 200 units of electricity and formation of a special unit for women’s safety.
He thanked the people for their support for his party in the Assembly polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted him on the occasion. The Central Government will keep working with the Tamil Nadu Government to improve the lives of people,” Modi said in a tweet.
Sri Lanka President congratulated Vijay.
In his message, he highlighted the deep historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu.
He expressed hope for stronger economic cooperation and closer India–Sri Lanka relations in the future.
He also conveyed wishes for the success and prosperity of Vijay and the people of Tamil Nadu.
TVK won 108 seats out of 234 seats needing 118 seats to form a government. As Vijay had won from two seats, he was required to surrender one of the seats leaving TVK with just 107 seats. due to which Vijay needed the support of 11 MLAs.
Vijay has got support from Congress with having 5 MLAS, VCK, IUML, CPI and CPM with 2 seats each making the total strength to 120.
