Kochi: Late personalities Dharmendra, V S Achuthananda, Shibu Soren, are among those selected for country’s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan awards to be given for 2026.
Names of legendary actor Dharmendra, Veteran Left leader late Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthananda, Late Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, were announced on the eve of Republic Day.
Others selected for Padma Vibhushan are retired Supreme Court judge K T Thomas, classical violinist N Rajam and P Narayanan (Literature and Education).
Veteran actor Mammootty, singer Alka Yagnik, Late actor Satish Shah, Tollywood icon Prosenjit Chatterjee, R Madhavan (arts and entertainment)
were among those selected for Padma Shri awards.
President Droupadi Murmu has approved the conferment of 131 Padma Awards this year, including two duo cases, which are counted as one award, according to an official statement.
As per the notification, the awards include five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri honours.
Sixteen of the awards have been conferred posthumously. As many as 19 women feature among the recipients, while the list also includes six foreign nationals, NRIs, PIOs and OCIs.
