HC directs setting up of ICCs

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has said that film units had the responsibility to set up an Internal Complaint Cell (ICC) for the protection of women in the workplace.

A division bench of the court made the ruling while clearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL)
filed by the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) praying for constitution of such a cell in the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) after the attack on a fellow actor on February 17, 2017 in Kochi.

The WCC had accused AMMA of shielding the actor Dileep who is an accused in the actor assault case.

The court said that institutions having ten employees must have the ICC under the provisions of Sexual Harrasment of Women at the Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) act 2013.
