Kochi: A Motor Vehicle Department official S Kiran Kumar was sentenced to ten years imprisonment after a Kollam Court found him guilty for the death of his wife Vismaya in June last.
The Kollam Additional Sessions Court had ruled Kiran Kumar, 31, guilty under various sections including section 498 A and section IPC 306 on Monday.
The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 12.55 lakh.
The convict prayed for leniency of his sentence citing the ill health of his parents.
An ayurveda medical student, Vismaya, 22, was found dead in her husband’s house
within a year of her marriage in June last year. Kiran, who was arrested a day after the incident, got bail from the Supreme Court after a year.
Digital evidence helped the investigation team to crack the case.
A total of 42 witnesses, 108 documents and call records were produced before the court.
The police submitted a 507-page charge sheet claiming that Vismaya had committed suicide due to dowry harassment.
