Kochi: In a major ruling, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the centre to facilitate a mother to make efforts to save her daughter Nimisha Priya from death sentence in Yemen for murdering her Yenenese business partner Talal Abdo Madhi.
The court gave the judgment considering the mother’s appeal against the centre’s travel restriction which was preventing her from visiting Yemen to negotiate with the victim’s family to dilute the death sentence by paying blood money.
The Union Government had imposed travel advisory notification in September 2017 due to internal disturbance in Yemen.
The court allowed her to go there by giving an undertaking that she was going there in her own responsibility.
One person who was working in Yemen for over 24 years has agreed to accompany Nimisha’s mother.
A court in Yemen had last year dismissed Nimisha’s appeal against the death sentence given to her.
Now 34, Nimisha Priya was only 19 when she left for Yemen in 2008. She got married and got a child who is in Kerala with her husband.
