Kochi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) showed signs of gaining popularity in Kerala as the party won a seat at Karimkunnam in Idukki in the by-elections held on December 12.Beena Kurian won from the seventh ward polling 202 votes defeating the UDF candidate who got 198 votes.In Areekkara in Idukki, AAP came second with 217 votes behind LDF which polled 236.
The AAP had first won a seat in Kerala Tomy Elasseryl in Chambakkad ward in Cherthala South in Alappuzha in the 2015 by-election.In the by-election held to 33 local body wards on December 12, UDF won 17 seats, LDF won 10 seats, BJP-led NDA four seats. Others won two seats.
