Kochi: A court in Idukki acquitted Arjun, 22, who was accused of raping and murdering a 6-year-old in Vandiperiyar, for want of evidence triggering emotional outburst by the victim’s mother and the relatives, media reports said.
The Fast Track Court in Kattappana delivered the judgment in the case in which the charge sheet was filed two years back in 2021. The mother, who gave birth to the girl after 14 years, vented her anger by threatening to do away with Arjun, who is an actist of the CPM’s youth wing DYFI.
The six year old girl was found raped and hanged. Arjun, who is the neighbour of the victim, was arrested on June 30, 2021. Arjun was popular in the village as he used to help people in many things including rendering assistance during the pandemic.
