Kochi: The identity of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s assailant Mohammed Shariful Islam of Bangladesh has been established by the Mumbai Police by conducting scientific tests, media reports said.
Facial recognition test report has confirmed the photo of Mohammed Shariful Islam, for allegedly stabbing the actor inside his residence two weeks ago.
The photo matches the images of the accused captured on various CCTV cameras on the day of the incident, the reports quoting a Mumbai police official said.
The police had decided to conduct a facial recognition test on Islam amid allegations that he was not the real accused.
The police received the forensic science laboratory report on Friday.
The police confirmation comes at a time amidst allegations that the fingerprint samples of Islam did not match the fingerprints of the intruder from the crime scene.
Police claimed to possesing strong technical evidence, including the CCTV footage, the mobile phone location, and the internet protocol details report to prove the accused’s role and presence in the area at the time of the incident.
Khan was attacked at his residence in Bandra on January 16.
Islam, who was arrested from the Thane labour camp area on January 19, has been lodged at the Arthur Road Central Jail.
