Kochi: Diwali turned out to be a low key affair in Kerala where heavy rains caused disruption to normal life on Monday.
The rains are brought by Low pressure in Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. It is likely to intensify further in next 24 hours to bring more downpour in the next five days.
Many roads including the Thiruvananthapuram-Tenkasi road were inundated.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode while yellow alert is in place in
the rest of the districts.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) directed those hilly and dangerous areas to move to safer locations.
Those residing on the banks of rivers were directed to relocate to safer areas.
Orange alert can bring rain of 11 cm to 20 cm yellow alert 6 cm to 11 cm.
