Kochi: The devastating floods has claimed 547 lives in Central Nepal on Friday even as search and rescue operations continue unabated.Rising of water levels at the site of the flood earlier this week increased the risk of another flood in the area, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).Reports of a dam burst on the Tibetan side has added to the problems while Chinese state broadcaster CCTV also warned that a dammed lake upstream of the Gyirong border port had begun to overflow, media reports said.Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah and his Council of Ministers on Friday announced their decision to contribute their salaries to Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund in the wake for flood relief. Meanwhile, Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said it does not need help from other countries to conduct search and rescue operations. A preliminary assessment suggested the collapse of a high-altitude glacier in Nepal was behind the mudslides and floods along the Nepal-China border, China’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday.External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that a little over 315 Indian tourists were out of contact. Water levels in the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi and Burhi Gandak rivers were showing a rising trend causing concern in parts of Bihar.The floods have hit several districts and left at least 826 people missing, according to Nepal’s disaster management authorities.The Uttar Pradesh and Bihar administrations stepped up monitoring of their river systems downstream of the rivers of the Himalayan nation.
