Kochi: Three former Supreme Court Judges are among 12 prominent personalities who have prayed for suo motu intervention by the Supreme Court in the issue related to bulldozing of houses in Uttar Pradesh.
Describing the UP government’s act as “making a mockery of the Constitution”, they
appealed to the Apex Court to act against the “violence and repression by state authorities against Muslim citizens” who are protesting over the remarks on Prophet Muhammad.
They have said that the bulldozing of houses is “an unacceptable subversion of the rule of law”.
Others who have signed the letter dated June 14 include three former High Court judges and six lawyers.
The authorities concerned had bulldozed the house of Javed Ahmad who is allegedly involved in the June 10 violent protests.
The police have arrested 333 people and registered 13 FIRs for the protests.
