Kochi: Aroma Chundan (snake boat) won the 72nd Nehru Trophy Boat Race by a whisker at Alappuzha on Saturday.
Nadubhagam Chundan came second and Veeyapuram Chundan third.
The new chundan was launched this year under the leadership of the Kollam based Aroma Business Group.
The Nehru Trophy Boat Race traces its origins to 1952 and is traditionally held at Punnamada Lake.
Earlier, the event was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan.
Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar was also present.
