Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday

Kochi: Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in Kerala on Saturday. The crescent moon was not sighted in the state on Thursday.
The festival marks the end of the month-long dawn to dusk fasting month of Ramadan.
As a result of this the state government has declared two consecutive holidays on Friday and Saturday.
Earlier, the holiday was on Friday.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan extended Eid greetings to the people across the world.
In his message, Khan said “May the celebration of Eid ennoble our minds with compassion and the spirit of brotherhood, and guide us towards piety and greater goodness.”
In his message, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Eid and Ramzan convey the noble message of humanity, power of love and compassion to the people.
Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated across the world on different days on the basis of sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of the Shawwal month in the lunar Islamic calendar.
