Kochi: Fire broke out in one of the coaches of
Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express which lay in the yard of Kannur Railway station in the wee hours of today, media reports said.
The blaze was noticed at 1.25 am when the train was parked in the yard close to the third platform. A parcel handling staff first noticed smoke coming from the rear compartment.
Within minutes the fire engulfed the compartment. The fire brigade took about one hour to put it out, the reports said.
The fire took place in the general coach of the train which was to begin its journey as intercity express in the evening.
There were no reports of any casualties.
It was the same train in which an accused Sharukh Saifi had ignited fire using inflammable material a few days back killing
three on April 2. The case is being investigated by the NIA.
