HC rejects Uty Syndicate plea

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has ruled that a decision taken by the University Chancellor, State Governor, cannot be challenged by the Syndicate of the institution.
A recent ruling by the single bench observed that the University Syndicate is not entitled to question an appellate order passed by the University’s Chancellor in disciplinary proceedings, BarandBench.com reported.
The court observed that under the Calicut University Act, the Chancellor occupies a superior position in the hierarchy of the University and acts as the appellate authority over decisions taken by the Syndicate.
The Court said that entertaining
such petitions would defeat the very concept of the functioning of the
University as a single body corporate disrupting the institutional discipline.
The case relates to the University Syndicate challenging the decision of the Governor, to quash action taken against an official of the University by the Syndicate.
