Kochi: Hailing country’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said there is a common perception that things would have been different if Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Prime Minister.
Addressing the students of the Sardar Patel Vidyalaya on the 147th birth anniversary of Patel, Shah alleged that many attempts were made to eliminate the contributions of Patel who cooly integrated over 500 princely states.
The country has grown stronger in the past 75 years even as the British had predicted disintegration of the country after their exit. Shah creditted Patel for being instrumental in assigning B R Ambedkar for framing the constitution which is not known to many, he said.
Showering praises on Patel for stressing to preserve one’s mother tongue by using it for imparting primary education, Shah underscored the importance imparting using regional languages in education.
Shah said exhorting the students to study the life of Patel to know him more. Shah paid tributes to those who perished in Gujarat’s Morbi bridge collapse on Sunday.
