Kochi: In a shocking case, India has reported the first suspected case of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) on an 8 month old child in Bengaluru, media reports said.
There was no foreign travel case for the
child. The genetic investigation is on to find out whether it was the same virus found in China which had first reported it.
China is witnessing a surge in human HMPV triggering concern among health managers across the globe.
HMPV causes flu-like symptoms and can lead to severe respiratory issues, especially among children and vulnerable groups.
Social media is flooded with HMPV
in China with posts purportedly showing hospitals full of patients.
Reports suggest that China is dealing with another epidemic five years after the outbreak of deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
Cases of HMPV among people under the age of 14 are showing an upward trend, the reports said.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has not declared a state of emergency yet in China.
The virus gains virility in the winter season.
Meanwhile, China has downplayed the outbreak of flu and said that the country is safe to travel.
