Kochi: There seems to be no end to infighting in the Congress in Kerala where political challenges are increasing in the over a century old party, media reports said.
Upset over the party affairs, Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, threatened to not contest the Lok Sabha polls if he was sidelined in the party during the KPCC executive meeting. The party unit in Changanassery was reshuffled, ignoring his suggestions, Suresh said. Former KPCC chief V M Sudheeran spewed fire at the party’s state of affairs at the KPCC meet in Thiruvananthapuram.
Late Congress leader Aryadan Mohammad’s son Aryadan Shaukhat and Malappuram district leader P M Niyas battled openly at the Thiruvananthapuram KPCC meeting forcing KPCC to censure them.
Infighting in the district unit had been simmering for quite sometime now.
Aryadan said instead of suppressing problems, the leadership should try to find a solution to them.
Aryadan asked who changed the district Mandalam presidents who were unanimously decided by party leadership.
Malappuram district secretary P M Niyas rubbished Aryadan’s charges.
KPCC chief Sudhakaran intervened and assured that the state leadership was in the process of solving the issue.
Opposing Sudhakaran’s move to silence the leaders, Shafi Parampil, MLA, said that they should be allowed to speak out their differences.
AICC general secretary Deepa Dasmunshi said she will examine the concerns of Aryadan.
Only yesterday former KPCC president V M Sudheeran exposed indiscipline and lack of comaraderie in the party.
Sudheeran, who is known for his principles and straightforwardness, was given a dressing down by Sudhakaran.
