LS polls from April 19

Kochi: Lok Sabha elections will be held in the country in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, while voters over 85 years could vote from home, the He Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said on Saturday. 

Andhra Pradesh will go to assembly polls on May 13, Sikkim on April 19, Arunachal Pradesh on April 19, and Odisha on May 13.

The results will be declared on June 4. No simultaneous polls will be held, he told reporters at New Delhi.

The Model Code of Conduct has come into effect immediately on the announcement of the schedule, the Election Commission said. 

Elections to 102 Parliamentary constituencies will take place in the first phase, 89 in the second phase, 94 in third phase, 96 in fourth, 49 in fifth, 57 in sixth and 57 in seventh phase.

There are around 97 crore voters. The tenure of the present Lok Sabha will end on June 16 and a new government is government due before that.
