Koch: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee in connection with the West Bengal Secondary School Commission recruitment scam under the Money Laundering Act.
The Minister was questioned for about 24 hours before he was arrested.
Soon he was taken to a hospital for a medical test. The seizure of over Rs 20 crore in cash from his ‘close acquaintance’, Arpita Mukherjee, tightened the noose around his neck.
The ED had conducted raids at different places in West Bengal in connection with the scam.
ED had conducted searches in the house of ministers of State for education
Paresh Chandra Adhikari and Manik Bhattacharya, former president of the West Bengal Board of Primary education on Friday.
Recently, the Calcutta High Court had directed the CBI to conduct a probe into the scam. Partha Chatterjee and Paresh Chandra were questioned by the CBI a number of times.
The High Court had directed to terminate Adhikari ‘s daughter who was working in a state-run school.
